Located about an hour north of Dallas on Highway 75—and a short drive from Lake Texoma—Denison is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Youtuber Tyler Anderson and his family recently experienced this first hand with a cozy cabin stay, a few fishing adventures, and some time spent shopping and eating downtown. Follow along and see why Denison is a great destination for family, fishing, and fun!
Upon arrival, Tyler and his family checked into their stay at Texas Tiny Cabins. Set on 40 scenic acres, these modern tiny cabins are perfect for family adventures with two sleeping spaces, full kitchen, spacious living area, and a stocked pond with kayaks.

After settling in, they stopped at Jalapeño Tree for dinner before heading to Lone Star Ski & Tackle. This outdoor retail store and gas station carries top of the line fishing gear and equipment with a focus on Lake Texoma’s most sought after species – the striped bass. Conveniently located along Highway 75, it’s a must stop for any avid fisherman.
Day Two started bright and early for Tyler and his friend Garrison with a fishing trip on Lake Texoma. Often referred to as the “Striper Capital of the World,” Lake Texoma is a favorite destination for anglers from across the country due to its world-class striped bass fishing. With the help of their knowledgeable guide, Captain John Blasingame of Adventure Texoma Outdoors, they got a true taste of Lake Texoma fishing, catching around 60 fish.
While Tyler was out on his fishing adventure, his wife, Hannah, and son, Brooks, headed downtown for a delicious breakfast at Emily’s Kitchen, one of Denison’s newest restaurants offering traditional American dishes and a thoughtful selection of Latin recipes. After breakfast, they wandered through Denison’s Historic Downtown—recently recognized with the 2025 Great American Main Street Award and named the 2025 Best Texas Downtown Award (Population under 50k)—and enjoyed browsing the area’s charming boutiques and shops.

With Tyler’s trip complete, the family headed over to Café Blackbird for coffee and lunch. This beloved local spot is well known for it’s gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads, homemade soups, and desserts made from scratch. After lunch, they headed back to their cabin for a quick nap before an afternoon fish in the stocked pond.

Tyler and his family wrapped up their stay with one final meal at Say When Brewing Company. Their menu is packed with delicious options like cheese bread, soft pretzels, salad, pasta, pizza and a selection of craft beers they brew in house.
With great accommodation, activities for the entire family, and delicious places to eat, Denison really is the perfect destination for family, fishing, and fun. Check out Tyler’s videos to see more from his trip, get inspired, and plan a stay in Denison for your next family adventure!
